Of men of honor

Maybe it’s only fitting that I blog about this today, on 9/11, when we remember brave men and women who died in the line of duty during that fateful moment.

I visited the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, built in honor of valiant soldiers who fought to liberate the country between the years 1941 – 1945.

The Memorial has two hemicycles which embrace the Memorial Court.

The names of the 36, 286 Missing in action are engraved on the walls of the Memorial.

The relief on the devotional Chapel symbolizes St. George, the American warrior.

Eleven burial plots are arranged in concentric rings around the Memorial – a somber reminder of a turbulent chapter of our history, and a promise that the selflessness of these men would not be forgotten.

The Manila American Cemetery & Memorial is at McKinley Road, Global City, Taguig. Call 844 0212 for more information.
