Tasting Truffle (well, sort of) at Bellini’s

Why are truffles so darned expensive? I mean seriously USD2,000 for a pound of what are actually mushrooms?

Maybe because it only grows in a certain part of Italy. Or maybe because one has to employ specially trained pigs to sniff it out.

Maybe the closest thing I could ever get to tasting it would be truffle oil. So I eagerly tried Penne Tartufo Funghi Con Prosciutto (Penne with Truffle Oil and Prosciutto Ham, Php350).  Hmmm. At first taste I thought it would be just your usual carbonara. But as it lingers in your mouth, you could taste some earthiness; a woodsy, forest-y flavor.

Basta it’s different. And I mean that in a good way.

And don’t you just love the decor?

Bellini’s is at Cubao X, General Romulo Ave., Cubao, Quezon City. Telephone Number: 913 2550.
