Diving Safe(r) with Benlife’s RDPP

Course Director Mario Elumba recalls a colleague, who suffered a heart attack while diving last year. “We needed to pass on the hat, as there was not much left for his family.”

The incident motivated him, as well as avid divers from Beneficial Life Insurance, to push for the development of the Recreational Divers Protection Plan (RDPP), a life insurance policy specifically for divers.

For an annual premium of P4,500, a diver gets 24/7 life insurance protection with a maximum coverage of P400,000. A diver also gets a maximum of three recompression treatments scheduled and performed at any recompression chamber owned and operatedĀ  by the Philippine Commission on Sports Scuba Diving (PCSSD). The PCSSD’s chambers are at the AFP Medical Center in V.Luna, Quezon City and at Camp Lapu-Lapu, Lahug, Cebu City.

It’s not as comprehensive as a DAN insurance, and P400,000 may not be that much, but it’s something.

Certified recreational divers 12 to 65 years of age may apply for the RDPP. Filipino divers get 24/7 life insurance protection in any part of the globe except for countries restricted by the Department of Foreign Affairs.
